What is Chautauqua?
During nine weeks each summer, nearly 100,000 people come for a week or more and attend hundreds of outstanding programs on the magnificent grounds on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York. With morning and afternoon lectures by distinguished speakers on important social, political, literary, scientific, and religious topics; with symphony, opera, theater, dance, film, visual arts, and popular music performances; with sailing, boating, fishing, and swimming in a gorgeous lake, plus a 36-hole golf course, tennis and pickleball courts, playing fields, playgrounds, parks and fitness centers, Chautauqua offers something for everyone, from children to adults. What is the UU Denominational House?
Owned by the active and vibrant UU Fellowship of Chautauqua, the UU Denominational House offers affordable accommodations in a perfect, central location for experiencing all that Chautauqua has to offer. There are also scholarships available for families and educators who meet certain criteria. The UU House fills up quickly, so we suggest you plan well ahead. Applications for 2025 are being accepted starting July 1, 2024 from members of UU congregations. Applications will be accepted in order of date received, and those applying for the first time will be given priority during the summer months until September 1, 2024. |
After September 1, all applications will be considered in order of date received—including from those who have stayed at the UUDH before and those who are not members of UU congregations. Rooms will be assigned as space allows. Remaining applications, if any, will be automatically added to the wait list. There are always cancellations, so we encourage those on the wait list to be flexible, patient, and optimistic.
We would remind you, though, that you do not have to stay at the UU House to experience Chautauqua or participate in the many Fellowship-sponsored activities.

What Other Accommodations Are Available?
The UU Fellowship also owns three timeshare condos at NorthShore at Chautauqua: one in Week 3, one in Week 8 (A3), and one in Week 9 (C2), each of which sleeps 6-8 people. Located inside the northern grounds of the Chautauqua Institution, NorthShore is a 15-minute walk or a short bike or tram-ride (0.7 mile) from the UU House.
These condos are perfect for larger families or groups—such as you and friends from your UU congregation! Please complete this application if interested. There are also many other Chautauqua accommodations available. A group from your congregation may want to consider renting one of the privately-owned houses in Chautauqua for a week as some UU congregations do. UUs belong in Chautauqua. “Walking back to the UU House on the last afternoon of the week, I experienced a tremendous feeling of gratitude—both for being able to attend a week’s worth of programs, but also for the camaraderie of my fellow UUs at the UU House” –A recent guest at UU House
